Bridgeport city council may get $40,000 ‘travel services’ fund

BRIDGEPORT — The all-Democrat Metropolis Council is contemplating a boost to the members’ annual $9,000 stipends without the need of specifically increasing that amount.

The municipal spending budget Mayor Joe Ganim submitted to the legislative system before this thirty day period is made up of, on prime of the normal $180,000 for members’ stipends to cover all of their costs, a new proposed pot of cash — $40,000 for “travel expert services.”

“People don’t like to discuss about increasing the stipend,” acknowledged Council President Aidee Nieves. “It was just an much easier way of not owning to have the struggle of raising our stipends.”
